The Gates PT.2

Welcome back to the second part of The Gates. If you missed the first part, catch up using the left arrow down below then come back and join us!

The last is the mouth gate. The tongue has so much power. Here’s some things the bible says about the tongue: Proverbs 18:21 NIV says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Proverbs 12:18 NIV says, “The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.” And Job 15:5 NIV says, “Your sin prompts your mouth; you adopt the tongue of the crafty.”

The same as the ear gate, don’t just not listen to “locker room” talk, but don’t participate in it. We are to be men of God and we are to protect the reputations of God’s daughters. Don’t repeat everything you hear, because you will breathe life to it. Think about it naturally, when you tell a kid not to touch something, that’s exactly what they now want to do. It’s hard for them not to do it. Well that’s exactly what we are doing when we repeat things we should not. It’s hard enough to cast thoughts down, but even harder when we have given life to it. What’s different about the mouth gate as compared to the other two is this is the one gate you have that works in both directions. Meaning your month can let stuff into your own ear gate by hearing what you are saying, but it can also harm others that you have influence with. 1 Corinthians 8:9 NIV states, “Be careful, however, that the exercise of your right does not become a stumbling block to the weak.” Meaning just because you have a mouth to say whatever you want, as a Christian we should not say anything that would threaten the ear gate of another brother/sister in Christ. Same as you would not bring drugs around and addict, don’t say things to harm the Christ walk of another.

The point of the gates is to protect your brain. The brain is powerful, it can remember things and give you feelings of things that happened decades ago. We all probably have a song that may be legit older than a decade, but if it comes on around you, not only can you sing/rap every lyric, but it takes you back to that place where you first heard it, or dancing or skating to it with the homies or that girl you were feeling. I personally can quote about every line to the movie Remember the Titans. My point is sometimes, once something gets in your head, it’s hard to remove it. So like other health issues, the best medicine in this case is preventive medicine. Practice guarding your gates now to prevent from needing spiritual surgery later. -Darron
